Valley Hospital’s Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center was honored with the Center of Distinction Award by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. The Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, related to patient satisfaction and wound healing rates.
“This is a well-deserved award for our Wound Care Program,” said Claude Wise, CEO/Managing Director of Valley Hospital. “Healing chronic wounds can be life-changing for patients. Many people don’t realize how a chronic wound can negatively impact their quality of life."
A chronic wound is defined as a wound that has been present for 30 days or more that has not responded to standard treatment, explained Manish Gupta, MD, Medical Director for Valley Hospital’s wound care center. “There are a variety of reasons a wound may not heal. There may be poor circulation of blood, oxygen or other nutrients, or a wound might be under constant pressure or caused by a weight-bearing issue," said Gupta. "No matter what the situation, it’s important to receive expert and dedicated care for chronic wounds to adequately identify and prevent additional complications and promote expedited healing to improve the quality of life of our patients.”
People at greatest risk for developing chronic wounds include those who have chronic medical conditions or vascular disease, a weak immune system, a previous history of ulcers or long periods of bed rest, unhealthy lifestyle habits such as smoking, or a poor diet and hygiene, and those who don’t move very much. Age can also be a factor in chronic wounds.
The Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at Valley Hospital is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 700 Wound Care Centers® that provides access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. The Center at Valley Hospital offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time.
